“Ex Libris” by Kay Sidebottom
I want to read you like a book.
Take you from the highest shelf
Uncover your pages
To seek the mysteries and tragedies
Slip between the dark days
And linger where the sunlight catches
I want to add a chapter
(Or at least a footnote)
Annotations in the margin
In pencil, naturally
To be erased
But letting my imprint remain
I want to rush to the climax
A spell-bound and hooked page-turner
Follow the lines with my fingertips
And turn down the corner
To bookmark memories
Returned to with repeated renewals.
I’d loan you my imagination
Create a world with letter upon letter
But for now
Just let me take you out
I promise to return you.
